How we doin?

Filed Under (Chatter) by colin.ake on 22-02-2008

What’s goin on?

It’s raining like all heck outside, which would be nice if I didn’t have to walk through it to get back to my car.  Seriously, how do we all of a sudden have two days straight of rain - for no reason?  I don’t even own an umbrella.  And to all you drivers who drive on North Avenue and swerve to hit the puddles to spray the pedestrians, thanks.  Hope the flight to hell has stale pretzels.

Well we’re in full swing now.  I’ve had a test in every class except Electronic Commerce, and I’m doing pretty well, as best as I can tell.  Classes aren’t that bad - most of them are informative and interesting (with the exception of Business Data Communications, which is mostly review for me anyways).  I can’t believe I graduate in December - I felt like I was going to be in school forever until January hit and I realized that I graduate in under a year.

Fortunately, I have a few options for when I do graduate.  It’ll be fun to try and decide which direction to go - and I’m excited about graduating.  It’s certainly strange to thinka bout not being in class every day, though.  That’ll be interesting.

Have a great weekend, everyone.  We’re going to see Vantage Point tonight - should be a good movie, I hope.  Take care and don’t splash water on pedestrians out of spite.

Mid February?!

Filed Under (Chatter) by colin.ake on 15-02-2008

It’s almost mid-February (WHAT?!) and thought I’d drop in an update in my effort to be more… well… present on my own site. Little update is due on everything and a few projects that are in the mix.

School is going well - I feel like I have a handle on it and am making a more concerted effort than last semester. Test grades reflect that, so that’s good.

Glee Club is in full swing - we have a trip in April to NYC (Carnegie Hall, baby), and a trip to the UK in May. My responsibility is raising funds, organizing details, managing cashflow, ordering tickets, staying on top of the roster, and being the general go-to guy there. It’s a feat, as we’re taking 37 people to New York and 24 to the United Kingdom.

As far as photography goes - I’m mostly happy with the camera equipment I own, but I’m considering upgrading my bodies. I have two Canon 30Ds currently, and while they’re great prosumer bodies, I would love to replace even just one of them with a 1DMkIIN - a pro body with higher burst-mode frame rate and better overall mechanics. I just have to find around $1800-2000 to make that happen.

Purchased a season ticket to the Braves game with the BravesBlast crew - all in all we have eight season tickets in the front row of the Upper Deck. Jonathan bought four and Charles has two, and Lance is buying my second ticket off of me. I’m sure that will provide days of entertainment over the coming year, as well as be good for BravesBlast.

For Spring Break I’m heading down to Florida for spring training - going to try and attend as many spring training games as I can and collect some good data for BravesBlast.  If you’re going to be in Florida, let’s meet up for one of the games.  It’d be fun.

I’m off for a conference call and then working flight and hotel details out for NY.  Have a great weekend.

Support Small Government - Vote Ron Paul ‘08

Filed Under (Chatter) by colin.ake on 04-02-2008

There are many objections to Ron Paul.
- He’s against the war.
- He wants too much change too quickly.
- The Gold Standard is a bad idea.

And there are more. But I don’t want to answer those. I share some of your concerns for some of his policies. I hope to tell you an alternative reason to vote for Ron Paul tomorrow.

It’s simple. I support small government. And I want the potential candidates of the future to know that.

Ron Paul is not going to be nominated by the Republican party as their presidential candidate. You don’t have to worry about the gold standard, his stance against the war, or how fast he’d implement change.

And you know as well as I do that there’s not MUCH difference in Romney, McCain, and Huckabee. You could argue the little points but they’re all big government Republicans. Your vote won’t really help decide between the three of them anyways.

I want small government, and I’m willing to vote for Ron Paul because I want there to be an indicator that a core group of people want small government in 2012, or 2016, or even 2020.

Voting for Ron Paul is, if nothing else, a vote for a smaller, more efficient federal government. And the potential candidates of the future need to know that the American people want small government.

Vote Ron Paul 2008, and support the concept of a small federal government.
